“Change does not roll in on the wheels of inevitability, but comes through continuous struggle. And so we must straighten our backs and work for our freedom. A man can’t ride you unless your back is bent.”
~Martin Luther King, Jr.~
Amen, Martin Luther King Jr. Freedom is something sometimes taken for granted but its something that so few people actually have. Sometimes we allow ourselves to become slaves to ourselves and to our own passions. This is not freedom. This is also not how life should be. I wear a ring that says “Happiness can break walls” Rabbi Israel Ben-Eliezer. I wear it because I believe that happiness is the secret to freedom. I will admit freely that having a traumatic brain injury has created many walls and hurdles that have stopped me from so much. However, choosing to look on the bright side of life and not letting my back be bent means I face my day to day situations head on with hope. Hope and happiness for good things. I have felt more after accepting what I cannot change and changing what I can. I am grateful for the freedom to live the life I do and make the choices I make. I am grateful for the freedom to be happy. I will NOT ever let someone steel that from me. Freedom is sometimes free, if you allow it to be.
