In most recent news, Jews are celebrated the fourth night of Hannukah or Chanukah (however you choose to spell it). The best thing I saw on facebook this year on the first night of Hannukah was actually a Menorah being lit up in front of the Brandenburg Gate in Berlin. For me this was super cool since just this summer I had been there and can understand what the scenery looks like. I know that place. It was neat to then see a huge menorah planned to be lit and show the entire German population how Jews celebrate this festival of Miracles. The whole thing seemed fitting considering the Jews past in Berlin and in Germany, in general. I saw a hashtag that said “Take That Hitler” and thats where I am at today. Some much has happened and is still happened to discriminate and destroy the Jews. However, we see that Miracles still happen and we see that Jews are still around. Are the Greek-Syrians who tried to destroy the Maccabees? Are the Nazi’s? Is Hitler?
Only the ash-heap of History carries those answers and only time will tell where the next Jewish miracle will be. For now, this is a quite a Chanukah Miracle and beautiful way to celebrate the Holiday. Danka Berlin! (Thanks Berlin!) 🙂
