Today I woke up to a ridiculously loud and early wake up call.
Thankfully, I fell back asleep and woke up at 11. Then got ready and my roommate and I went downstairs to get lunch. As a group we then headed back to the airport. Started to meet more people in our group which felt so much easier today. The fact that I had already started to form friendship, I was no longer fearful but rather excited and felt like myself again. We stood around for a while until our airport group leader told us rules and guided us on what to do to get through the airport.
After security we met up with the rest of our group, since we kind of got split up. Then at our group we all sat around and played this name bingo to start to get to know everyone. As I finally sat in my airplane seat, I quickly called my parents and spoke to them before the plane was all packed up. I was sitting next to the Rabbi and in the aisle near some of the people that I was already starting to build friendships with. We got a delish kosher dinner and that I started watching a movie. It really felt nice to be going on a trip for vacation.
It was such a wonderful change and a slight adjustment to realize that this trip is vacation and to enjoy and embrace all of it. Its totally different than going abroad to live and study, like I did over summer. The trip seemed to go by quicker and that’s probably because so many people on the plane, or at least in our area were also going on Birthright so we were all super excited! It nearly felt like a party with the way everyone was so giddy. I’m grateful and excited to see Israel and to see how things go. I’m hoping I don’t get sick cause my throat already hurts.
This seems unreal. I can’t wait to be in Israel.
