Now we are headed to Tzfat which is one of the 4 holy cities in the world. There is a closer connection to G-d there and it is associated with the element air. Miracles happen and in Tzfat the layer between physical and spiritual world is lessened. The tour of Tzfat was nice but man was it icy and slippery since the snow is melting. There are stairs and hallways everywhere. The architechture is big brown brick and accented in blue and its pretty much simple and gorgeous. We even saw a spot that had been hit by a bomb. Saw the house that our tour guide had lived in when he was younger. We went to synagogue which was small but amazing inside and out. Our rabbi told us his story of becoming religious and meeting his wife. A few of us shared a little bit of our stories. I told my group about the struggle I have had with Judaism and going to a Baptist university. It was really special to share how going to place that is very NOT jewish and in fact is strongly another religion has really taught me what I believe, what jews believe. The thing is, I have become more jewish going to a Christian university and as much as the struggle has been, my jewish identity I am more proud of today than I was before I came to the university. I guess change really can happen.
