We started off the morning with a trip to a famous Israel square and learned about the murder of a leader who was working towards peace and had been murdered by a fellow jew. Discussed right-wing and left-wing politics of Israel.
We went to Shuk Carmel which was a nice marketplace where I found even more souveniors for my family and friends and it was less expensive than Ben Yehuda. Found one place with a jelly doughnut, souphganyuot! It was delcious.
We followed that by going to Jaffa, an old city which reminded me of scenes of Indiana Jones. It was fun exploring. We even saw a happy couple that just got married and were taking photos. We stopped and sang Mazel Tov to them. It was so awesome!!!
Its incredible how much Israel feels like home and is welcoming (I know I keep saying this but its just shocking and wonderful). I feel normal for being Jewish. I still feel unique just like everyone else because we each have a different backstory. The Rabbi even thinks my life is interesting haha. I guess my willingness to spend money on food or souvenirs is easy because of the fact that where I am from there is like NO jewish or kosher stuff.
The sunset tonight was gorgeous. Its weird to think that I’m in the middle east but it feels like the center of the world and it feels like the place I’m meant to be. G-d willing we will continue to be safe and for G-d’s hand to be over Israel and protect and bless Israel.
I’m grateful for Birthright and for my friends who pushed me out of my comfort zone.
We are now on our way to Bedouin tests so it should be an interesting night.
